Gone Kesh (transl. Hair gone) is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language comedy drama film written and directed by debutant Qasim Khallow and produced by Dhiraj Ghosh.^[1] The film follows the story of a teenage girl who is an aspiring dancer but is diagnosed with alopecia, a condition where she starts losing hair rapidly.^[2][3] It stars Shweta Tripathi and Jitendra Kumar in the lead roles, while Vipin Sharma, Deepika Amin and Brijendra Kala appear in supporting roles.^[4] Gone Kesh was released on 29 March 2019.

Diagnosed with alopecia at 15, Siliguri girl Enakshi Dasgupta’s (Shweta Tripathi) biggest fear is losing her hair. Her self esteem and confidence takes a beating as her visible bald patches start drawing unnecessary attention at school. Her hair loss becomes a subject of concern for her parents and mockery for classmates. Enakshi’s rare condition not only hampers her peace of mind but also supposedly sabotages her marriage prospects.

Most girls often grow up on Disney fairytales, romantic movies and Barbies — all of which define women’s beauty in a certain way. Fair and flawless skin, slender waist, long legs, petite frame and gorgeous hair. Even actresses who don’t meet this checklist, aren’t really in the ‘mainstream’. Those who do, are worshipped and desired.

Our race to fit in begins right from our childhood. The society sets unrealistic standards of beauty and women must live upto those expectations. If you don’t, you are considered unworthy of success, love or marriage. Enakshi’s hair-loss sucks the happiness out of her life. She stares at every other woman with envy, covers her head with a scarf and struggles to put up a brave front. Her simple parents are willing to do anything for her hair regrowth treatment and a guy quietly nurses feelings for her. But can Enakshi free herself from wallowing in self pity? Rapunzel used her gorgeous hair to escape the tower but what happens when your thoughts are your tower of prison?

Qasim Khallow’s film is a heartwarming tale of conquering fear, crushing societal standards of beauty and exploring the parent-child bond. The film is most relatable for women, who are conditioned to believe that they ought to be perfect if they wish to ‘bag a good husband’.

Other than presenting a story that’s deeply personal yet relatable, Gone Kesh primarily works owing to its great casting. Shweta Tripathi portrays the trauma of her condition in the most real, understated manner.

Vipin Sharma and Deepika Amin are every bit the loving and supportive parents who sacrifice their own needs and wishes for their child. They believe in their daughter when she herself gives up. Jitendra Kumar is perfect as the shy love interest, who loves Enakshi just the way she is. A scene where he happens ho see her without her wig plays out brilliantly.

Khallow captures the minutiae of the small town life in a heartfelt, authentic manner. The thought of flying in an aeroplane for the first time, taking a vacation after 25 years of marriage and being told that you are ‘good enough’. Despite the film’s languid pace, this one’s a winner — hair or no hair. It also reminds you that good people end up with good people, always.

Dream Girl (2019) Movie Review :

From the time he is a kid, Karam does a fine job of imitating women’s voices. So while in school he makes proxy phone calls to teachers as his friend’s mom, when he is older, Karam (Ayushmann Khurrana) lands roles in local plays as Sita and Radha. And is often revered by the people in the small town of Gokul for his roles and mostly for the voice he is able to modulate. But it’s not something either he or his father, Jagjit Singh (Annu Kapoor) are comfortable with. His dad wants him to find a regular job, where he doesn’t have to don the woman act and Karam is also very clear that he will play these roles only till he finds a regular job. Which he does soon enough, but the only hitch is it requires him to be ‘Pooja’ at a call center for sex chats. Soon enough, ‘Pooja’ has an assortment of men and a woman besotted by her. And each of them want to either meet or marry her. All this while Karam’s girlfriend Mahi (Nushrat Bharucha) is oblivious of his double life.

‘Dream Girl’ is positioned as an out and out comedy, so don’t expect any nuanced probe into cross dressing or exploring one’s sexuality. In fact, there is none of that.

While the premise of ‘Dream Girl’ is an interesting one to begin with, it doesn’t go beyond that idea. However, director Raaj Shaandilya manages to evoke some amount of laughter in this situational comedy. But there is also a dollop of humor which treads into the bizarre, double entendre and at times offensive zone. As a variety of characters and situations are bunged in, the screenplay moves at an uneven pace. The songs, ‘Radhe Radhe’ and ‘Dil Ka Telephone’ add some of the pep to the wobbly plot.

The performances by an ensemble cast stays above board – Ayushmann Khurrana pulls off a commendable, self-assured act, despite working with a character which is not entirely well fleshed out. Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Bannerjee and Manjot Singh add to the comic element. Nushrat Bharucha and Rajesh Sharma are effective.

At the end of it, the film slips in a message on loneliness, social media friends and having someone to talk to. Despite the flaws, ‘Dream Girl’ attempts to show the leading man in a different light, and manages to entertain in parts.

Prassthanam (transl. Reign) is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language political action film directed by Deva Katta and produced by Maanayata Dutt under her own banner Sanjay S Dutt Productions.^[3] A remake of the 2010 Telugu-language film of the same name, the film stars Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, Chunky Pandey, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey, and Amyra Dastur.^[4] The film follows a rural politician who favors his intelligent stepson as the heir to his throne, much to the disappointment of his own son who's hot-blooded and starts to rebel against his decision.

On 29 July 2019, Sanjay Dutt, the producer Manyata Dutt, and the director Deva Katta were sent a legal notice by Shemaroo Entertainment alleging they did not have the remake rights for the film and giving them three days to respond.^[5]

The film was released on 20 September 2019.

Prassthanam (2019) Movie Story :

Prassthanam' means journey. This is a story about power, greed, love, human fallacies. Set in a contemporary political family, the story of Prasthaanam like the Mahabharat, deals with complex questions on morality, right and wrong. No character in the film is black or white, each of them is a human shade of grey. 'Old Sins Have Long Shadows' . Shakespearean in its treatment, Prassthanam tells the story of Baldev Saahu - a great political leader, but vulnerable to his ambition - and the story of his two sons, step-son Ayush and biological son Vivaan. One who wishes to be a candle and illuminate, while the other, like a raging wildfire, wishes to destruct. The story is an emotionally charged intense character drama in which every character is chasing their own desire, giving rise to complex and destructive situations. Prassthanam (2019) Movie Review :

Political rallies, exit polls, powerful families and unscrupulous netas surrounded by sycophants - welcome to the election central of India (read Uttar Pradesh). And one of the most influential leaders here is Ballipur’s Baldev Singh. He is aided by his morally upright and charismatic half-son Aayush (Ali Fazal). He is the heir apparent, much to the chagrin of his younger step-brother Vivaan (Satyajeet Dubey), who is a rich spoilt kid and a rabble-rouser with a violent streak. All these men are bound by one woman, Saroj (Manisha Koirala), Baldev’s wife. The complex family dynamic forms the crux of the story, which also draws inspiration from our epic tales Ramayana and Mahabharata.

While there isn’t much novelty in the story itself, the director and screenplay writer Deva Katta infuses quite a few twists to keep you engaged, especially in the second half. The first half is mostly spent in introducing the many characters of the film. Some of them are not even relevant to the story, like Aayush's love interest played by Amyra Dastur. Neither her chemistry with Ali Fazal nor her track has any bearing on the overall narrative. Among the other female characters, Manisha Koirala is cast in a crucial role, but with very less screen time or scope to perform. Her character barely shows any authority within the otherwise male-dominated household. Jackie Shroff as Baldev’s loyal driver Badshah also doesn't get to explore his full potential due to poor writing. Sanjay Dutt is impressive in his role of a determined leader and a vulnerable father. But it’s Ali Fazal who makes the most of his well-written character. He exudes an easy charm as a young political leader and a responsible elder brother. Satyajeet Dubey is slightly over-the-top, but believable. Chunky Pandey appears as the only formidable opponent in the film.

The dialogues by Farhad Samji are often too filmy and funny and they don't always fit into the moment. Prassthanam manages to hold your interest in parts due to its fast paced developments. But it also suffers from the usual pitfalls like unwanted songs and just too many conflicts, happening all at once. In conclusion, Prassthanam is a tried and tested political potboiler with power, greed and emotions at its core.

Made in China (2019) Movie Plot :

Raghu Mehta, a Gujarati entrepreneur, struggles to come up with a profitable business, having dabbled in all sorts of business ideas. Upon being chidden by his Father-in-law, he goes with his brother-in-law to China to discover a new business idea. He lands in a meeting with a Chinese businessman who introduces him to the Chinese version of Viagra, and tells him it will succeed in India because Indians are always thinking about sex. Raghu heads to India and tries to raise funds for his product. Upon a suggestion by a mentor named Tanmay Shah, he recruits and promotes a local sexologist named Dr. Vardhi, and tries to increase the awareness levels of sex-related issues in the country. Their business takes off as the product is very popular with Indian women and men alike.

When Raghu's Wife, Rukmini, finds out about the fact that her husband is peddling sex medicines, she is ashamed and confronts him about it. Raghu is distressed and tries to talk to Dr. Vardhi about ending this partnership. Following the death of a Chinese general after he consumed Raghu's Magic Tiger Soup, a full-fledged investigation apparently implicates Raghu in the murder. During the trial, Raghu reveals the secret ingredient in his concoction, and Dr. Vardhi appeals to the investigation committee not to consider sex as a taboo topic, and encourages them to let the product continue instead of banning it.

In the end, Raghu is shown as a successful owner of a chain of sexual health-related clinics, and he is invited to a premier business school to give a lecture on being an entrepreneur.

Made In China Movie Review :

The film revolves around the life of Rajkummar Rao's character Raghuvir Mehta/Raghu, an Ahmedabad-based shop owner who despises being called a businessman as, according to him, "entrepreneurs ideas banate hai aur businessman bas bechte hai."

Wanting to succeed on his own terms, this self-proclaimed entrepreneur, despite having a family business, keeps trying new business ideas and failing at them till the time he is forcefully asked to quit and move to China.

Though reluctantly, Raghu heads to the country of a billion and a half only to stumble upon a new idea: a key to customers' demand - an aphrodisiac. Like a missile, he gets back to India, armed with this new product, to kickstart his business. But it is not so easy. He has to deal with quite a few roadblocks first.

Rajkummar Rao is magnificently simple in the film. The actor hasn't let the shimmer of his success, especially in the past year, taint his acting. This is proven by the fact that Raghu reminds you a lot of Deepak Singh, Rajkummar's character from his 2014 film Citylights. Though Raghu's circumstances are a little less harsh than Deepak's, Raghu mirrors an innocence that is reminiscent of Deepak.

Made In China is a perfect treat for the audience this Diwali thanks to the film's supporting star cast, who add just the right amount of seasoning to a well-cooked storyline.

Mouni Roy as Raghu's wife is a surprise package. Though given a small role, Mouni comes with much power, owning every bit of the screen time she gets in the film. This is Mouni's second Bollywood film after last year's Gold.

Amyra Dastur, Paresh Rawal, Gajraj Rao and Sumeet Vyas also keep you interested in them with their limited screen time. Boman Irani as Dr Vardhi, however, is the one who gets to take the cake in Made In China.

Dr Vardhi is a quick mix of Boman's two iconic roles: Viru Sahastrabuddhe from 3 Idiots and Dr Asthana from Munna Bhai MBBS. His performance is the kind that dwarfs everything and everyone else on screen.

Logic seems to be on a break in some parts of Made In China. The film, directed by Mikhil Musale, also suffers from a slow pace in the second half, but the overall product isn't too shabby.

From an international business tycoon to his wife, Raghu takes advice from everyone, only to climb up the ladder in the world of business. The narrative is enhanced by well-written dialogues.

Made In China is also an example of how to impart sex education, sans metaphors and any awkwardness.
